Vizag to get 24/7 Godavari water supply under ₹725-crore project
Work on a major water supply infrastructure project in Visakhapatnam is set to commence in October, bringing round-the-clock water from the Godavari river to the city's Madhurawada locality.

The ambitious ₹725-crore initiative will facilitate the transport of water from the Yeleru source to the Mudasarlova reservoir, significantly expanding water availability in the eastern coastal city. The project's first phase is expected to serve approximately 2.5 lakh residents in the targeted areas, providing a sustainable solution to the region's water scarcity challenges.
Construction activities are anticipated to begin in October, marking a critical step toward addressing Visakhapatnam's water security concerns. The scheme represents one of the city's most substantial infrastructure investments in recent years, designed to meet growing demand from the expanding urban population.
By routing water through the proposed pipeline network, the project will simultaneously reduce pressure on the existing Gosthani water supply system, which currently bears a considerable load in meeting the city's consumption needs. This dual benefit of increased supply and load distribution positions the initiative as a strategic long-term solution for the region's water management infrastructure.
Once operational, the 24x7 supply system is expected to improve living standards and support industrial development in Madhurawada and surrounding localities. Officials have indicated that subsequent phases may extend the benefits to additional areas, though details regarding expansion timelines remain under review.
