Vizhinjam Port Launches EXIM Operations, Opens New Trade Gateway

Vizhinjam Port in Kerala has commenced EXIM (export-import) operations, marking a significant expansion of India's maritime trade infrastructure. The port, which had previously functioned primarily as a transshipment center, is now equipped to handle direct cargo movements to and from India.

The port's strategic geographic positioning offers considerable advantages for Indian exporters and importers. Located a mere 10 nautical miles from major international maritime routes, Vizhinjam provides direct access to global shipping networks without requiring cargo to be redirected through intermediate hubs.

This operational transition elevates Vizhinjam's role from serving as a relay point for container transfers to functioning as a comprehensive international trade gateway. The facility can now facilitate direct shipments of Indian goods to overseas markets and enable the import of foreign merchandise directly into Indian ports.
