Vizianagaram mayoral poll postponed to October 29 due to religious festival

The State Election Commission has approved a request from the Vizianagaram district administration to shift the mayoral poll to October 29, moving it forward by a single day to avoid conflict with the Sirimanotsavam festival. The decision reflects the poll body's consideration of local religious observances while maintaining the electoral schedule.

The rescheduling was necessitated after district officials requested the postponement to ensure minimal disruption to festivities and allow greater voter participation. The commission granted the request, recognizing the significance of the festival in the region.

Despite the change in polling day, the State Election Commission confirmed that the counting of votes will proceed as originally planned on October 30. This arrangement ensures that while voters have unimpeded access to polling booths, the subsequent electoral process remains on track.

The Vizianagaram municipal election is part of the broader electoral processes taking place across Andhra Pradesh's urban local bodies. Officials are coordinating necessary arrangements to implement the revised schedule smoothly.
