Vizianagaram voters deleted under SIR process, alleges Jana Chaitanya Vedika

Jana Chaitanya Vedika, a civil society organisation, has accused authorities of deleting legitimate voters from electoral rolls in Vizianagaram district during the Special Inspection of Rolls (SIR) exercise. The group's State president has raised concerns about the conduct of the ongoing roll inspection process, claiming that eligible citizens have been inadvertently or improperly removed from voter registers.

The organisation has called for a complete halt to scheduled local body elections until the electoral rolls are thoroughly revised and verified. Jana Chaitanya Vedika contends that conducting polls without addressing these discrepancies could disenfranchise a significant segment of the eligible electorate in the district.

Adding to the controversy, the group has accused the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of maintaining silence on the issue. The allegations suggest a lack of political response or intervention from the ruling party regarding the irregular deletion of voters from official records during the ongoing SIR process.

The Special Inspection of Rolls is a routine exercise conducted by election authorities to identify and remove ineligible entries from voter registries, such as deceased persons or those who have relocated. However, civic groups have flagged concerns that the process in Vizianagaram may have resulted in collateral removal of legitimate voters.
