Volvo Buses India announced on Wednesday that it has secured a landmark order valued at supplying 200 buses to the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC), marking the automaker's single-largest order in the Indian market to date.
The contract comprises 170 standard seater buses alongside 30 sleeper variants, all manufactured at Volvo's production facility in Hoskote. The order represents a substantial investment in upgrading premium intercity transportation infrastructure across Maharashtra.
"This significant order demonstrates our shared vision for elevating travel standards and broadening access to premium passenger experiences for Maharashtra's commuters," said Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President of the Bus Division at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., Volvo's parent entity in India.
The Volvo 9600, which will constitute the entire order, is available in both configurations to meet varying operational requirements of state-run transport undertakings. The deployment is expected to strengthen connectivity and service quality on intercity routes throughout Maharashtra, reinforcing the state's commitment to modernizing its public transport fleet.
