VP Duterte must clarify Gencorp shareholding discrepancy, says prosecutor

MANILA — House prosecution spokesperson Benjamin "Jay" Tolosa Jr. said on Friday that Vice President Sara Duterte's defense lawyers will need to account for the difference between her declared financial interest in Gencorp Industries Inc. and corporate records that do not list her as a shareholder.
"It's up to them how they will explain it," Tolosa said, placing the burden on the Vice President's legal representatives to resolve the apparent inconsistency in official documentation.
The discrepancy between Duterte's financial disclosure and Gencorp's corporate registry raises questions about the accuracy and completeness of her asset declarations. Such inconsistencies often draw scrutiny during legislative investigations and impeachment proceedings.
The statement from Tolosa, who is also serving as a private prosecutor in related cases, signals that prosecutors intend to press the issue during subsequent hearings. The Vice President's legal team has not yet issued a response to the challenge.
The matter comes amid ongoing House proceedings involving the Vice President, which have drawn heightened public attention to her financial interests and business dealings.
