The Volkswagen supplier said Tuesday it will cut 3,460 jobs in Europe, with approximately three-quarters of the redundancies affecting German operations. The company, which specializes in ball bearings and hybrid-electric drivetrain components, attributed the workforce reduction to softer market demand and ongoing challenges in the automotive industry.

The job cuts represent a significant restructuring effort for the Tier-1 supplier, which has faced pressure from declining vehicle sales globally and the automotive sector's transition toward electric mobility. Germany remains the company's primary manufacturing hub, making it the focal point of the efficiency drive.

The announcement underscores mounting headwinds facing automotive suppliers worldwide. Major manufacturers have been implementing cost-cutting measures as economies slow and consumer demand for new vehicles remains subdued. The shift toward electric vehicles has also prompted suppliers to reassess their product portfolios and manufacturing footprints.

The company indicated that facility closures in Germany would be part of the restructuring process, though specific plant details were not immediately disclosed. The job reduction programme is expected to be implemented over the coming months as the company seeks to align its cost structure with market realities.
