LABUAN — The prolonged water supply interruption affecting Labuan has left tens of thousands of residents without adequate access to clean water, with the crisis now entering its third consecutive day. The disruption has impacted more than 20 villages and residential zones across the federal territory, disrupting daily life for residents and businesses alike.
Restaurants, cafes, and other food service establishments have been particularly hard hit, with many forced to cease operations due to the inability to maintain hygiene standards and prepare food without reliable water access. Hawkers and small food vendors have also suspended their activities, compounding economic losses across the hospitality sector.
The widespread outage has raised concerns among residents about the adequacy of water infrastructure and supply management in the region. Authorities have yet to provide a definitive timeline for restoration of normal water services, leaving affected communities uncertain about when normal operations will resume.
Labuan's water authority is urging residents to conserve water where supplies remain available and to report any unusual circumstances to facilitate rapid response efforts. The situation underscores growing challenges facing the federal territory's utilities infrastructure as demand continues to outpace existing capacity.
