The Ganga Expressway, a six-lane highway project funded at Rs 36,000 crore, is designed to connect Meerut and Prayagraj by reducing travel time significantly. The project, promoted by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, has been beset by various implementation challenges since its commencement.
Local officials have attributed the waterlogging to recent heavy rainfall and inadequate drainage infrastructure at certain sections. The incident has renewed questions about the project's construction quality and the adequacy of its stormwater management systems.
Authorities have not yet provided a timeline for clearing the accumulated water or resumed construction work at the affected sections. The project remains a critical initiative for the state government's infrastructure development agenda.
