WazirX said its futures trading volume jumped 236 per cent in the three months to September 30, marking a significant acceleration in derivatives activity on the Indian cryptocurrency exchange. By the end of the quarter, daily futures traders had increased approximately 279 per cent compared to early July, while peak trading volumes in September reached 345 per cent above early-quarter levels, according to a company statement released Friday.
The surge coincided with a series of product launches and feature expansions designed to broaden access to derivatives trading. In August, WazirX introduced Indian rupee-margined perpetual futures for USDT-denominated cryptocurrency pairs, allowing retail traders to access leveraged positions without converting to foreign currency.
The exchange complemented its derivatives expansion with tools aimed at simplifying position management and compliance. New offerings included an AI-powered trading assistant, automated margin top-up functionality, and a free cryptocurrency tax-reporting platform. These additions reflect efforts to lower barriers to entry for derivatives trading while helping users track transactions and manage regulatory obligations.
The third-quarter performance underscores growing appetite for derivatives products among Indian retail traders. WazirX's push into AI-assisted trading and compliance features signals a broader industry shift toward offering institutional-grade tools to retail participants in South Asia's expanding cryptocurrency market.
