The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory warning of severe lightning conditions expected to affect various parts of the island. The warning comes as the country experiences unstable atmospheric conditions conducive to the formation of thunderstorms with intense electrical activity.
Authorities have advised the public to remain indoors during severe weather events and to avoid outdoor work, recreational activities, and travel when thunderstorms are in the vicinity. The advisory extends to boat operators and fishermen, who are instructed to exercise heightened vigilance and consider postponing sea voyages during periods of severe electrical storms. Damage to communications infrastructure, power disruptions, and risks to life have been cited as potential consequences of lightning strikes.
Residents are also advised to unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms to prevent damage and reduce the risk of electrical hazards.
