The Wellington reservoir, constructed in 1923 at Keelacheruvai village in Tittakudi taluk, is undergoing significant rehabilitation work as authorities seek to bolster its operational efficiency. The initiative comes as the structure, now over a century old, continues to serve as a critical water source for the region's agricultural sector.
The reservoir commands an extensive ayacut spanning 9,737 hectares across 63 villages in both Tittakudi and Vriddhachalam taluks. This expansive coverage makes the facility one of the district's key irrigation assets, supporting livelihoods for thousands of farming families dependent on its water supply throughout the year.
Official sources indicate that the rehabilitation work has gained considerable momentum in recent weeks, with various repair and maintenance activities progressing steadily. The project is expected to address structural concerns and improve the reservoir's water retention capacity, which has been a longstanding concern for irrigation officials.
