West Bengal CM Banerjee Faces Fresh Crisis as Backed Candidate Arrested

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is confronting a series of setbacks that threaten to undermine her political position in the state. The Election Commission has frozen the party name and electoral symbol of her Trinamool Congress, a significant blow that restricts the party's campaign visibility.

The troubles mounted when Sanchita Prabhat De, the Trinamool candidate from the Nandigram constituency, withdrew her candidacy, forcing the party to reorganise its electoral strategy. The withdrawals have compounded existing organisational challenges facing the regional powerhouse.

In a move that backfired almost immediately, Banerjee publicly threw her support behind Milan Prabhat, a Congress candidate, seeking to build opposition unity. However, within hours of endorsing him, police arrested the candidate, raising questions about the timing and coordination of the action.

Banerjee has indicated she plans to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Election Commission's decisions, signalling her determination to fight the regulatory measures. The series of political reversals and administrative hurdles has intensified scrutiny of her government's position amid the state's electoral process.
