West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has committed to taking action following remarks made by a CPI(M) leader who attributed vandalism at a property to Hindutva activists, triggering sharp political reactions across the state.
The controversy centres on a social media post by the Communist leader alleging that Hindu nationalist activists were responsible for attacking a building. The claim has drawn criticism from opposition figures, who contend that the statement unfairly maligns the entire Hindu community.
Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has called for the CPI(M) leader to retract his remarks, arguing that the allegations lack evidence and constitute an affront to Hindus. "How could he write on social media that Hindutva activists were behind the attack? He has insulted the entire Hindu community," Adhikari stated.
Meanwhile, police have arrested one individual in connection with the house attack. State authorities have assured residents that investigations are proceeding and that those responsible will face legal consequences.
The incident underscores ongoing tensions between regional political parties in West Bengal, with disputes frequently centring on communal narratives and competing accusations of misconduct.
