West Bengal gears up for maiden Gangasagar Mela under BJP administration

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has set preparations in motion for the upcoming Gangasagar Mela, marking the first edition of the major Hindu pilgrimage to be organised under the BJP-led administration in West Bengal. The sacred congregation, held annually on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, witnesses an enormous congregation of devotees who converge on Sagar Island in the South 24 Parganas district to take ritual dips at the confluence of the Hooghly River and the Bay of Bengal.

The Gangasagar Mela holds significant religious importance in the Hindu calendar and draws pilgrims from across India and abroad. The event is traditionally associated with the legend of Sage Kapil and holds deep spiritual significance for devotees who believe that bathing at the confluence during Makar Sankranti absolves them of sins.
