West Bengal police seize major cache of explosives in dual operations

The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) conducted simultaneous operations on November 5, 2026, that resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of explosives and illegal weapons across two districts.

In the first operation, STF personnel raided the Murarai area of Birbhum district in the early morning hours. The raid yielded 1,150 gelatin sticks, 989 detonators, and 12,000 meters of detonating cord. The discovery of such a substantial explosives cache has raised concerns about potential illegal mining or other illicit activities in the region.

A second concurrent operation in the Jamudia matter resulted in the seizure of 38 illegal firearms and 122 cartridges. The exact details regarding the connection between the two operations remain unclear, though authorities are investigating potential links.

The dual raids underscore ongoing law enforcement efforts to curb the circulation of illegal explosives and firearms in West Bengal. Authorities have not yet announced arrests or disclosed the intended use of the recovered materials.
