West Bengal to probe Mamata's 2021 election injury claims

Adhikari said the state government would investigate what he characterized as Banerjee's "false claims" of a leg injury during her campaign in Nandigram in 2021. Speaking at a press conference at the state secretariat Nabanna, the Chief Minister displayed a medical report from the Bangur Institute of Neuroscience, stating the examination found no evidence of fracture or dislocation.

"Mamata Banerjee faked her leg injury during campaigning in Nandigram in 2021. We have the medical report which clearly shows there was no evidence of fracture or dislocation. We will initiate an investigation into the matter," Adhikari said.

The Chief Minister described Banerjee's allegation as an insult to the people of Nandigram and indicated he would release additional details once the model code of conduct is lifted after October 9. He also referenced similar claims he had made the previous day.

The statement comes ahead of a by-election scheduled for October 6 in the Nandigram constituency, with results to be declared on October 9. Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, had claimed to suffer a leg injury while campaigning in Nandigram during the 2021 state elections, an incident that had become a significant talking point in the electoral discourse at the time.
