Western allies rebuke Israel over Gaza aid worker deaths inquiry
Britain, Canada and Australia have criticized Israel's decision to decline an independent criminal investigation into an airstrike that killed seven World Central Kitchen workers in Gaza last year.

The three countries issued a joint statement expressing concern over Israel's refusal to permit an external probe into the incident, which occurred in early 2024 when an Israeli military operation targeted a convoy carrying humanitarian aid workers.
The strike resulted in the deaths of seven employees of World Central Kitchen, an international charity providing food assistance in conflict zones. The organization had previously called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Western nations argued that an independent criminal inquiry was necessary to establish accountability and determine responsibility for the deaths. Their statement underscored the importance of investigating incidents involving civilian casualties and humanitarian personnel operating in conflict areas.
Israel has maintained that it conducted its own internal review of the operation. However, the country's rejection of an independent investigation has drawn criticism from international observers who contend that transparent, external scrutiny is essential for maintaining credibility and upholding humanitarian standards.
The incident has intensified scrutiny of military operations in Gaza and raised questions about measures taken by Israeli forces to protect aid workers and civilians in active conflict zones.
