BACOLOD CITY — A regional wage board has approved a P40 to P45 daily minimum wage increase for private-sector workers in Western Visayas and Negros Occidental, marking a significant adjustment to worker compensation in the region.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-6) made the announcement on Saturday, with board chair Sixto Rodriguez Jr. confirming the decision. The wage hike now awaits final approval from the Department of Labor before implementation.
The increase represents the most recent adjustment to minimum wage levels in the region, where labor groups, employers, and government officials regularly convene to assess wage adequacy and economic conditions. The tripartite board comprises representatives from labor unions, business associations, and government agencies.
Workers in the covered regions are expected to benefit from the increase once the labor secretary formally approves the recommendation. The exact implementation timeline remains subject to the department's processing of the board's formal submission.
