MANILA—Minimum wage workers in Western Visayas will benefit from daily salary increases of up to P45 beginning November 19, following approval of Wage Order No. VI-30 by the Department of Labor and Employment.
Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino announced Tuesday that the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has endorsed the wage adjustment for the region, which comprises Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
The wage order represents the government's continued effort to improve the purchasing power of low-income workers amid rising cost of living. The NWPC, a tripartite body composed of government, employer, and worker representatives, evaluates wage proposals based on economic conditions and worker needs.
Regional wage adjustments in the Philippines are implemented through wage orders issued by regional tripartite councils and approved by the NWPC. The Western Visayas increase follows similar adjustments in other regions as the government seeks to balance worker welfare with business sustainability.
Workers and employers in the region have been advised to familiarize themselves with the new wage rates prior to the implementation date.
