Wet weather to escalate across Sri Lanka's southwestern region

Showery conditions are set to strengthen across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, according to forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology. The wet spell will also affect the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya, with precipitation expected to increase from Thursday onwards.

The meteorological department has warned that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres is anticipated across affected areas during the forecast period. Residents in southwestern and central highland regions are advised to remain alert for potential impacts associated with substantial rainfall.

The intensification of showery weather reflects seasonal patterns typical of this period, with the southwest monsoon continuing to influence weather systems across the island's southwestern sector. Travellers and commuters in affected districts should exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to flooding or landslides.
