Wharf Properties divests Singapore landmark in $310m deal

Wharf Properties Limited, the real estate arm of the Wharf Holdings group controlled by Hong Kong tycoon Peter Woo, has completed the disposal of Scotts Square for S$310 million, concluding a lengthy divestment process for the mixed-use development in Singapore's Orchard Road precinct.

The transaction represents a significant shift in Wharf's Singapore portfolio, as the company steps back from direct property ownership in the city-state. Scotts Square, an upmarket shopping and office complex, has been a landmark retail destination since its establishment in the premium shopping district.

The sale underscores ongoing portfolio reshuffling among Asian property developers navigating shifting market conditions and investment priorities across the region. For Singapore's commercial real estate sector, the transaction highlights continued investor interest in prime retail and mixed-use assets, despite broader economic headwinds affecting retail performance across Southeast Asia.

Wharf Holdings, one of Hong Kong's oldest and largest conglomerates, maintains extensive property interests across Asia but has been selectively managing its international exposure in recent years. The completion of the Scotts Square sale provides the company with capital proceeds to redeploy across its portfolio.
