WhatsApp Tests AI Content Labels for Channel Updates on iOS
WhatsApp is piloting a new feature that would allow channel administrators to label media created or edited with artificial intelligence, giving subscribers transparency about the content they receive. The experimental tool is currently available to select beta testers on iOS devices.

The messaging platform is exploring ways to help users identify artificially generated or manipulated media shared through its Channels feature, which functions as a broadcast medium for administrators to communicate with subscribers. The labeling system would enable channel owners to disclose when images, videos, or other media have been created or substantially edited using AI tools before distribution.
The initiative reflects growing industry-wide efforts to address concerns about misinformation and the spread of synthetic media. Currently, the feature remains in early-stage testing and is limited to a subset of iOS users participating in WhatsApp's beta program. The company has not announced plans for broader rollout or availability on Android devices, though such expansion would be typical for features that prove successful during testing phases.
