Widespread rain forecast across Sri Lanka from early afternoon

Meteorological authorities have alerted the public to anticipate widespread precipitation developing across the country this afternoon, with conditions expected to intensify particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.

According to the Department of Meteorology, showers and thundershowers are likely to affect the majority of districts island-wide from early afternoon onwards. The northern and eastern regions, including Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts, are also expected to experience rainfall activity.

Fairly heavy falls in excess of 75 millimetres are anticipated at isolated locations within the aforementioned provinces and districts, raising the potential for localised flooding and waterlogging in susceptible areas. The public has been advised to exercise caution and remain alert to weather updates as conditions develop throughout the afternoon and evening.
