Showers and thundershowers are expected to develop across the majority of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, the Department of Meteorology announced. The northern and eastern districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, and Mullaitivu may experience wet conditions during the morning hours ahead of the broader rainfall system.
The meteorological department cautioned that fairly heavy rain exceeding 75 millimetres is likely to occur at isolated locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain alert for potential flooding and landslide risks associated with intense downpours.
The widespread weather pattern is expected to persist through the afternoon and evening, affecting both inland and coastal areas across the island. Commuters and outdoor workers are urged to exercise caution as visibility may be reduced during thunderstorm activity.
