Widespread showers forecast across Sri Lanka this afternoon

Meteorological forecasters predict precipitation will intensify across Sri Lanka from 1:00 p.m. onwards, affecting the majority of districts nationwide. The weather system is anticipated to bring both isolated showers and more organised thunderstorm activity throughout the afternoon and evening.

The Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Central provinces are likely to experience the most severe conditions, with some locations recording rainfall in excess of 75 millimetres. The Trincomalee and Kurunegala districts have also been identified as areas where heavy precipitation is probable.

Coastal regions may see scattered showers developing, though rainfall intensity in these areas is expected to remain lighter compared to inland zones. Residents and commuters are advised to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and exercise caution on roads, particularly in areas prone to water accumulation.

The Department of Meteorology recommends monitoring official weather updates for any revised forecasts or warnings as the weather system develops throughout the day.
