Widespread showers forecast across Sri Lanka today

The Department of Meteorology has warned of showers and thundershowers expected to develop across most of Sri Lanka from early afternoon. Several provinces are on alert for heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres.

Widespread showers forecast across Sri Lanka today

Showers and thundershowers are expected to develop in most parts of the island from 1.00 p.m. today, according to forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology. The weather system is anticipated to bring precipitation across multiple regions during the afternoon and evening hours.

Fairly heavy rainfall above 75 millimetres is likely to occur at isolated locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Uva, Southern, North-western and North-central provinces. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for potential flooding and landslides.

Misty conditions are also expected at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and adjoining areas, which may affect visibility and travel conditions. The meteorological department recommends that people exercise caution during the anticipated weather spell.
