Several spells of showers are expected to impact the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces throughout the day, along with the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara, according to forecasts released by the Department of Meteorology at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The rainfall pattern is expected to be concentrated in these western and central regions, with showers or thundershowers also anticipated at isolated locations in the Uva province and in the Batticaloa district on the east coast.
The meteorological department advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert to weather conditions and take necessary precautions. Those in flood-prone zones and areas susceptible to landslides should exercise particular caution during the period of active rainfall.
The forecast forms part of the ongoing monsoon activity affecting the island during this period of the year, with several districts experiencing above-normal precipitation.
