Witness reveals secret office room used for alleged kickback schemes

MANILA — A witness testified before the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Thursday that a former Public Works-Bulacan District Engineer maintained a concealed room in his office premises used in connection with alleged kickback operations.

Wirt Walter Rosales, who served as personal assistant to the accused official since 2021, disclosed the existence of the hidden chamber during his court appearance. According to the witness, the room functioned as a location where disputed funds were allegedly tallied and kept.

The revelation adds another dimension to the ongoing investigation into the financial dealings of the accused engineer. The testimony forms part of mounting evidence being presented to support allegations of corruption and irregular financial transactions within the public works department.

The Sandiganbayan proceedings continue as prosecutors build their case against the accused official. The testimony from Rosales, given his access to the office environment and proximity to the accused, carries significant weight in establishing the operational mechanics of the alleged scheme.

The case remains under active adjudication at the anti-graft court, with additional testimonies expected in coming hearings.
