Woman alleges coercion, abuse by in-laws in Jharkhand dowry case

A woman in Ramgarh district has accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to severe harassment and physical violence after she refused to comply with their demands, according to a police complaint filed this week.

The woman alleged that after failing to conceive, her family members pressured her into an inappropriate relationship with her brother-in-law. When she refused to comply with their demands, she claimed family members beat her, the complaint stated.

Beyond the alleged abuse, the woman also accused her in-laws of making financial demands, including cash of two lakh rupees and a washing machine, according to the complaint details.

Local law enforcement registered a first information report based on the woman's allegations and has begun investigating the case. The inquiry will determine the veracity of the claims and identify those responsible for the alleged misconduct.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic abuse and financial exploitation within some households across India, particularly in cases involving disputes over fertility and family lineage.
