Law enforcement agencies in Punjab have dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking network, apprehending two suspects with a substantial heroin cache on Monday. The operation resulted in the recovery of 8 kilograms of the narcotic substance, which has an estimated street value exceeding Rs 40 crore.

The arrested duo, which includes a woman, is believed to have been operating as part of a larger smuggling syndicate with connections across state and international borders. Preliminary investigations suggest the contraband was intended for distribution through established networks in northern India.

The seizure underscores the persistent challenge posed by narcotics trafficking along India's borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan. Punjab has emerged as a critical transit point for heroin entering the country, with enforcement agencies intensifying operations to intercept shipments and dismantle supply chains.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the smuggling network and trace the origin and intended destination of the seized contraband.
