Woman arrested for impersonating immigration officer in work permit scam

The Melaka Immigration Department (JIM) has taken into custody a housewife on suspicion of impersonating an immigration officer in an alleged work permit fraud scheme. The arrest follows an investigation into complaints from multiple victims who reported being charged substantial sums for fraudulent employment documentation.

According to immigration authorities, the suspect approached job seekers and offered to facilitate work permits in exchange for cash payments reaching RM6,000 per applicant. The scheme exploited individuals seeking overseas employment opportunities, with victims providing personal details and payment before discovering the documents were counterfeit.

The Melaka Immigration Department has urged the public to verify all official communications and permits directly through authorized channels. Residents are advised to contact JIM's official hotline to confirm the authenticity of any immigration-related services or documents before making payments.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with authorities working to identify additional victims and establish the full extent of the fraudulent operation. The suspect remains in police custody pending further investigation.
