Authorities in Gir Somnath district have arrested Bhaniben Pamak, the wife of the victim's nephew, in connection with the murder of Rakhamaiben Bambhaniya, 85, in the village of Bhingran. According to police, Pamak visited the elderly widow's residence on October 25 under the guise of having tea together.
Police allege that Pamak, motivated by desire to steal the victim's jewellery, attacked Bambhaniya with a sickle, resulting in the elderly woman's death. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene.
In a development that further disturbed the community, Pamak allegedly returned to the victim's home subsequently to pay her respects and participate in mourning rituals. Police said this calculated move was part of an apparent attempt to deflect suspicion.
Investigations into the case are continuing as police work to recover the stolen jewellery and establish the complete sequence of events. The case has raised concerns about safety in rural communities and the vulnerability of elderly residents living alone.
