Woman convicted of murdering husband six months after Instagram romance

A court in Uttar Pradesh has convicted a woman of murdering her husband just six months after their marriage, concluding a case that began with a romance forged on social media. The incident occurred in the Chilhiya area of Siddharthanagar district, where the accused woman used a necktie to strangle her spouse, identified as Amit. According to court records, the woman, Jyoti, subsequently called the police emergency number 112 to report the incident herself. The timing of her call and subsequent investigation led authorities to charge her with murder.

The relationship between Amit and Jyoti began through Instagram before progressing to marriage. However, the union proved short-lived, with the homicide occurring approximately six months after their wedding. The circumstances surrounding the killing prompted a thorough police investigation into the events leading up to the crime.

The district court found the accused guilty of the offense and handed down a sentence of life imprisonment along with a fine of 10,000 rupees. The verdict marks the conclusion of legal proceedings in a case that highlighted the complexities of relationships formed through digital platforms and the tragic outcome in this particular instance.
