A woman in Pune's Balewadi area sustained severe injuries after being struck by a car, allegedly in retaliation for protesting against public drinking, authorities said Monday.

The two accused, identified as young men from the locality, were taken into custody following the incident. Police said the woman had objected to the men consuming alcohol in an open field when the altercation escalated.

According to the complaint, the accused deliberately drove their vehicle toward the woman, striking her with considerable force. Medical examination revealed serious fractures and injuries to her hands and legs.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigators are continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward with information.
