Woman killed by brother-in-law over land dispute in Uttar Pradesh

A woman in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, was killed while working in her field on Wednesday in what police believe was a premeditated murder over a land ownership dispute. The victim, identified as Soni, 38, was attacked with an axe by her brother-in-law while she was cutting grass on the family property.

According to police statements, Soni had assumed primary responsibility for household finances and management following an accident that left her husband mentally incapacitated. Despite her compromised legal standing as a woman managing a household, she had effectively controlled the family's agricultural assets.

Investigators allege that Soni's brother-in-law sought to seize approximately nine bighas of land belonging to her husband's estate. The dispute over property rights is believed to have escalated to violence, culminating in the fatal attack.

Police have registered a murder case and initiated an investigation. The brother-in-law's current whereabouts remain unclear, and authorities have launched a manhunt in connection with the crime.
