Woman killed by family members over marriage choice in Mathura

A woman identified as Naziya was allegedly murdered by her family members in Mathura's Govind Nagar area after she married against their wishes, police said on Monday. According to reports, Naziya's relatives allegedly strangled her to death following her marriage to a man named Ravinder, and subsequently buried her body in a local cemetery to conceal the crime.

The case came to light after Naziya's husband filed a First Information Report (FIR) with Rajasthan police, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. Acting on the complaint, Mathura police exhumed Naziya's body from the cemetery and registered a criminal case against the family members involved.

Police have arrested Naziya's brother in connection with the murder. Further investigations are underway to establish the roles of other family members allegedly involved in the crime. The incident highlights recurring cases of honor-related violence reported across northern India involving marriages contracted against family wishes.
