A woman was killed in a tragic accident in Hubballi when the string of a flying kite became wrapped around her neck while she was riding a two-wheeler. The victim, identified as Vidya Gaudr, a laboratory technician, died at the scene of the accident on Karwar Road near Siddarudh Mutt.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by kite flying, particularly during peak seasons when large numbers of people engage in the popular recreational activity across urban areas. The manja, or treated kite string coated with glass powder, is designed to cut through competitor kites but poses significant risks to pedestrians and two-wheeler riders who come into contact with it unexpectedly.
Police have registered the death and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The incident has prompted renewed concerns about the safety hazards associated with kite flying in densely populated urban areas, where moving vehicles and pedestrians are at constant risk of injury from airborne strings.
