COTABATO CITY — A woman was killed and her husband sustained critical injuries after armed men fired on their residence in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat on Monday afternoon, authorities said Tuesday.
The shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in Barangay Laguinding, according to Major Jeffrey Lazaro, chief of the Esperanza Municipal Police Station. The victims were attacked inside their home by unidentified gunmen in what police are treating as a criminal investigation.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was immediately rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment of his critical injuries. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as police continue their preliminary investigation.
No suspects have been identified or apprehended in connection with the incident. Authorities have appealed for information from the public that may assist in solving the case. The investigation is ongoing.
