Woman killed in militant attack on Manipur village; two injured

Suspected militants carried out an indiscriminate shooting attack on Tollen Kuki village in Manipur's Jiribam district around 4 a.m. on Monday, leaving one woman dead and two family members wounded.

Police said the attack targeted a residential area in the village, which is located near National Highway 37 that connects the state capital Imphal with Jiribam. The woman was killed in the volley of gunfire, while her husband and son sustained injuries during the assault.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident. The attack is the latest in a series of incidents of violence in Manipur, where ethnic tensions between Meitei and Kuki communities have persisted for months.

Authorities did not immediately release the names of those affected or provide details on the suspected identity of the attackers. The region has witnessed periodic militant activity and communal clashes, prompting enhanced security measures along major thoroughfares and residential areas.
