Woman's murder solved after police review 300 CCTV recordings in three days

The Surat Police arrested Chhaya Shah, 35, on Thursday in connection with the killing of Amina Moti Wala, an 84-year-old resident of Nanpura locality. The arrest came after three days of intensive investigation into the elderly woman's death.

Police said they relied heavily on technical investigation to establish a connection between the accused and the crime scene. Investigators reviewed approximately 300 CCTV camera recordings from the Nanpura area and surrounding neighborhoods to track the accused's movements and establish her presence at the location during the time of the incident.

The systematic analysis of surveillance footage proved crucial in narrowing down suspects and eventually leading authorities to Shah. Police said the video evidence provided critical corroboration of their investigative leads and helped establish a timeline of events.

The case underscores the growing importance of closed-circuit television networks in urban crime investigation across India. Surat, a major diamond and textile hub in Gujarat, has expanded its CCTV surveillance infrastructure in recent years to improve public safety and aid law enforcement operations.
