Women lured to Italy, trafficked to Egypt amid abuse

Traffickers promised the women lucrative jobs and better lives in Italy, but the journey ended in Egypt where they were subjected to systematic abuse and exploitation. The victims spent months trapped in a cycle of forced labour and violence, with limited contact with the outside world and few opportunities to seek help.

The case highlights the sophisticated methods used by human trafficking networks to deceive vulnerable people across South and Southeast Asia. Traffickers typically target individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, using false employment offers and promises of migration to lure victims into their networks.

Both women eventually managed to escape their captors and are now receiving support from victim assistance organisations. Authorities in multiple countries are investigating the trafficking ring, with law enforcement agencies working to identify other members of the criminal network and potential victims.

Human trafficking remains a persistent challenge across the region, with thousands of people, particularly women and children, falling victim to exploitation each year.
