Worker Dies After Molten Steel Spill at Chhattisgarh Plant

A contractor identified as Santosh Srivastav died on the night of October 17 after being struck by molten iron at JD Steel Plant in Rasmda, Durg district, authorities said. The metal, heated to approximately 1,600 degrees Celsius, spilled during operations at the facility, causing fatal injuries to the worker.

Footage of the incident has emerged showing Srivastav attempting to flee after coming into contact with the molten material. The video documents the critical moments following the accident as he tried to escape the intense heat.

Police have registered a first information report against the plant management and the contractor in connection with the incident. The case is being investigated to determine the exact circumstances that led to the spill and whether safety protocols were followed at the facility.

The incident raises fresh concerns about workplace safety standards in India's steel manufacturing sector, where industrial accidents involving extreme temperatures remain a significant occupational hazard for workers.
