The World Bank's latest funding commitment represents a significant step toward rebuilding critical transport infrastructure devastated by Cyclone Ditwah. The $110 million allocation will support the reconstruction of around 600 kilometres of damaged roads, addressing connectivity gaps created by the natural disaster.

Beyond simple restoration, the financing is designed to incorporate climate resilience measures into road rebuilding efforts. This approach seeks to ensure that reconstructed infrastructure can better withstand future extreme weather events and climate-related shocks that threaten the region's economic stability and development gains.

The investment comes as regional authorities assess broader recovery needs following the cyclone's impact. The World Bank's financing is intended to complement ongoing national recovery efforts, with enhanced infrastructure standards expected to provide long-term protection for communities and economic corridors dependent on these transport networks.

The project underscores growing international focus on building climate-adaptive infrastructure across South and Southeast Asia, where vulnerability to cyclones, flooding, and other climate hazards remains a persistent development challenge. Integrating resilience into reconstruction efforts aims to reduce future disaster-related losses while supporting sustainable economic recovery.
