Yadav calls on NDA allies to back Bihar's constitutional quota push

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, has appealed to senior figures within the National Democratic Alliance to advocate for Bihar's longstanding demand for a 75 per cent employment quota protected under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

The former deputy chief minister's statement signals renewed focus on the contentious quota issue, which has remained a focal point of political discourse in Bihar for years. The Ninth Schedule provision would shield the quota from legal challenges, a key demand of various political parties in the state.

In his remarks, Yadav also levelled serious allegations against Bihar's law enforcement and state administration, claiming they have systematised the filing of false criminal cases against youth, students, members of the press, and ordinary citizens. Such accusations have become a recurring charge from opposition parties regarding police conduct in the state.

Yadav's appeal to NDA coalition partners underscores efforts to build pressure on the Modi government from within its own political alliance. The move reflects broader political positioning ahead of state elections, with the quota issue serving as a mobilising point for multiple political formations in Bihar.
