Yala National Park to welcome visitors as Block 1 and 2 reopen

Yala National Park's two primary blocks will reopen their gates to both local and international visitors from October 16, according to an announcement by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. The decision marks the end of a closure period that began on September 14, when the areas were shuttered due to severe conditions affecting park operations.

The phased reopening plan includes tourist bungalows and campsites within the national park, which will commence accepting reservations from November 1. This staggered approach allows authorities time to prepare accommodation facilities and ensure visitor safety before full-scale resumption of tourism activities.

Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka's most significant wildlife destinations, attracts considerable numbers of visitors annually seeking to experience the island's diverse fauna and pristine natural environment. The reopening is expected to provide a boost to both the tourism sector and local communities dependent on park-related economic activity.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation's decision to reopen both blocks reflects improved conditions at the park and restoration efforts following the month-long closure. Visitors planning trips to Yala are advised to check with relevant authorities or accommodation providers for current booking procedures and any specific guidelines that may apply upon reopening.
