The Sri Lankan government faces mounting pressure to accelerate relief and reconstruction efforts for communities impacted by Cyclone Ditwah, with significant gaps remaining in addressing the disaster's aftermath more than twelve months later.

According to assessments by engineering experts, the cyclone affected over 2.2 million people across 25 districts, leaving a trail of destruction valued at approximately USD 4.1 billion. Despite the scale of the humanitarian crisis, comprehensive government interventions have yet to materialise fully for the affected populations.

The delayed response has raised concerns among disaster management specialists about the adequacy of Sri Lanka's recovery framework. With substantial portions of the affected population still grappling with displacement, damaged infrastructure, and economic hardship, officials have come under scrutiny for the pace of rehabilitation efforts.

Experts have called for a more coordinated and accelerated approach to reconstruction, emphasising the need for government action to address housing shortages, infrastructure repairs, and livelihood restoration programmes across the impacted regions. The extended timeline for recovery underscores challenges in mobilising resources and implementing comprehensive disaster response strategies.
