Yemen conflict intensifies as Houthis, Saudi forces trade attacks

The Houthi movement claimed responsibility for strikes on Saudi Arabia's Jazan and Najran airports, marking the latest escalation in a conflict that has devastated Yemen for years. The attacks on the southwestern Saudi facilities occurred as the Saudi-led military coalition intensified air campaigns targeting Houthi positions across Yemeni territory.

Both sides claimed tactical victories, with Saudi-led government forces reporting successful strikes on Houthi military installations and weapons caches. The Houthis, for their part, asserted that their airport attacks damaged Saudi military infrastructure and demonstrated their continued capability to project force across the border.

The cycle of tit-for-tat military operations reflects the entrenched nature of the conflict, which has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The fighting has displaced millions of Yemenis and left the country's infrastructure in ruins, with limited progress toward a political settlement despite international diplomatic efforts.

The Saudi-led coalition, supported by regional allies, has conducted air operations since 2015 in response to Houthi advances. The Iranian-backed Houthis have used the intervening years to develop increasingly sophisticated weapons systems and maintain their territorial holdings in northern Yemen.
