Yemen government forces claim heavy toll on Houthi rebels in territory push
Saudi-backed Yemeni army forces say they have inflicted significant casualties on Houthi fighters during military operations aimed at recapturing lost ground. The reported toll underscores the intensity of ongoing combat in the war-torn country.

Yemen's government forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, claimed Wednesday that they killed approximately 700 Houthi rebels in a 24-hour period as part of operations to retake territory controlled by the Iran-aligned insurgent group.
The military announced the casualty figures as it continues its offensive to regain areas previously held by government forces. The campaign reflects renewed efforts by the Saudi-backed coalition to shift momentum in a conflict that has devastated Yemen's civilian population and infrastructure since 2015.
The Houthi movement, which controls much of Yemen's most populous regions including the capital Sanaa, has not immediately commented on the reported casualties. Independent verification of casualty claims in the conflict remains difficult, as access for international observers is severely limited.
The fighting has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, creating what United Nations agencies have described as a humanitarian crisis. Despite international calls for ceasefire negotiations, military operations have continued intermittently across multiple fronts in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula nation.
