Yemeni hospital faces imminent collapse amid Houthi siege

A hospital in Yemen's Taiz governorate has issued an urgent alert that it faces operational collapse within days due to a prolonged siege by Houthi forces, hospital officials said. The facility reported severe shortages of essential supplies including fuel, pharmaceuticals and oxygen that have forced medical staff to severely curtail treatment for vulnerable patients.

Dialysis patients have been particularly affected, with treatment sessions being reduced in duration and frequency as oxygen supplies dwindle. The hospital said it lacks sufficient fuel to power generators needed to maintain life-support systems and refrigeration for medications. Medical supplies that would normally sustain operations for months have been depleted within weeks due to the blockade.

The Taiz region has endured intense conflict between Yemeni government forces and Houthi militants over several years, with civilian populations bearing the brunt of the humanitarian crisis. Healthcare infrastructure across Yemen has deteriorated markedly, with hospitals facing routine shortages of basic supplies and qualified staff.

Hospital administrators warned that without immediate intervention to break the siege and restore supply lines, they would be forced to cease operations entirely, leaving the region's population without access to critical medical services. The situation underscores the broader collapse of Yemen's healthcare system amid ongoing conflict and economic crisis.
